Portraits of a Restaurateur

One of my favorite spots to eat in Atlanta is Sheik Burritos and Kabobs (we usually make a weekly trip there for carryout). The foods fresh, tasty and organic AND it’s a fusion of TexMex and Persian-style kabobs. Delicious food aside, recently had a chance to do a portrait shoot with the owner – Jahan. So my faithful friend and assistant (Daniel Shirey) and I hopped into the car and set off to Sheik.

Sheik with Scimitar

Generally speaking, the formula "portrait session + massive sword = fun shoot" holds true.

Sheik Spices

It was nice to see a delicious casual restaurant that uses "spices and herbs" to flavor food instead of just slathering everything in grease and sauces.

As with any other portrait shoot – a lot of the fun comes from working with the subject and pushing them to try different things. Fortunately, not only was he down for wielding a fiery skewer while tossing a mixture of spices and herbs into the air, but he also had like a two foot scimitar that he just keeps around.

When a subject during a commercial shoot pulls out an antique sword the size of your torso – generally, a good sign (or a very, very bad sign now that I think about it).

Anyways, the shoot was super fun and messy and here are some photos. My girlfriend and I swung back by later to pick up some food that same night also. So if you’re bored and want to check out a new place to eat – head over!
